Building up, particularly around transit lines, has been the urban planners’ mantra for decades. And with 100,000 people moving to Greater Toronto every year, what better place to intensify than right at GO Transit stations? Certainly a one-storey station makes little sense these days. But that doesn’t mean the Metrolinx plan to get the private sector to fund new GO stations in exchange for the right to build on those sites comes without significant potential pitfalls.
